Promising practices promoting gender equality and women’s autonomy in response to climate change in Latin America and the Caribbean

September 2021

This is a background paper which formed part of the 66th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW66) Expert Meeting on Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programmes, prepared by Lorena Aguilar Revelo, Independent Expert on Gender and Environment, Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

This paper aimed to present promising practices that have the potential to influence the possibility that gender equality and the autonomy of women’s and girls’, in all their diversity, could be prioritised and addressed in an integral way in the context of action on climate change at a national level; that the full participation of women as climate actors could be ensured; and that their capacity for resilience and that of their communities could be developed to achieve the 2030 Agenda and the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
