Tanzania: Livestock keepers ready for climate change

4 January 2015

The livestock keeping communities of the Maasai, in Monduli, Longido and Ngorongoro districts, in Arusha, Tanzania, have not been spared the effects of climate change, reports the Daily News Tanzania.

According to the report, a call for improved methods in planning and governance to address the impacts of climate change and support local resilience have begun to be addressed by a recent workshop, including the participation of community leaders and women.

Commenting on the session, a prominent Maasai elder Saiteye Martalo told the Daily News "This project will impart knowledge to us and ultimately help us gain adaptation skills as effects of climate change continue to 'cut' deep in our socio-economic and cultural life. Sustainable livestock keeping is suitable for the community."
