Policy commitments for integrating gender issues into climate change action and disaster risk reduction in Cambodia

The purpose of this brief is to review the current policy frameworks and commitments of the Royal Government of Cambodia to address gender equality issues in climate change and DRR. The brief will consider the submissions made by Cambodia to international conventions which it has ratified as well as legislation and policies that respond to climate change and DRR. The final sections of the report identify the main challenges in integrating gender equality issues into climate change action and DRR and propose recommendations for moving forward and strengthening Cambodia’s policy commitments.

This brief is an output of the EmPower project implemented by UN Women and UN Environment and as such, the review covers the legislation, policies and plans that are targeted by the project. In addition, the review focuses on selected sectoral plans that are relevant to project activities. This includes policies and plans under the Ministry of Environment(MoE)and the National Council for Sustainable Development(NCSD), the Ministry of Women’s Affairs (MoWA), the Ministry of Rural Development (MRD)and the National Committee for Disaster Management(NCDM).
