Gender and equity in policies and programs to foster climate mitigation and adaptation in Latin America

This is a background paper which formed part of the 66th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW66) Expert Meeting on Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programmes, prepared by Sarah Gammage, Policy Director for Latin America of The Nature Conservancy.

This paper focuses on economic and environmental resilience in the face of climate change in Latin America, paying particular attention to the gendered nature of farming and production systems and the relationship of men and women to the natural resource base.
