Encouraging women’s contribution to resilient cities

This paper is part of a series highlighting the World Bank's achievements in disaster risk management initiatives. It presents the Women Entrepreneurship Resilient Cities (WE’Resilient Cities) competition, building on the World Bank’s existing disaster risk management programs, organized in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. It describes: (i) its context; (ii) the World Bank approach; (iii) the results and achievements; (iv) the lessons learned; and (iv) the next steps, including the announcement of the winners in 2015 and a second phase of the competition, in which 30 additional cities in the MENA region have expressed interest in.
