Climate change vulnerability and adaptation preparedness in Tanzania

This report presents an overview about Tanzania’s efforts to address the challenges of adaptation to climate change so far. It provides information on existing policies and maps institutions and main actors in a rapidly emerging policy area influenced by a wide array of actors and interests. The report also states that it should be of interest to everybody working in the area of climate change in East Africa to those who seeks general information and orientation in the field, as well as to experts already working towards a sound response to climate change in the region.

The report covers i) Tanzania at a glance, key development indicators from Tanzania and Germany; ii) changes in mean temperature and precipitation between present day and 2020s and 2080s for East Africa showing multi model means and model range; iii) impacts of climate change in Tanzania by sector and effect highlighting likely impacts based on a review of available literature; iv) summary results quoted in ECA (2009) test case on Tanzania; v) summary of key insights and recommendations emerging from the BBC-WST trust research on climate change awareness in Tanzania; vi) analysis of the degree to which a gender-inclusive approach and gender equality are embedded in aspects of Tanzania’s response to climate change; vii) a snapshot of gender inclusion and equality indicators for Tanzania and Germany; viii) summary of key insights and recommendations emerging from the BBC World Service Trust (2010) research on climate change awareness in Tanzania; ix) analysis of degree to which a gender inclusive approach and gender equality are embedded in aspects of Tanzania’s response to climate change; x) a snapshot of gender inclusion and equality indicators for Tanzania and Germany.
