A heatwave is an unusual period of hot weather over a region persisting for at least two consecutive days during the hot period of the year based on local climatological conditions.
Heat-related mortality was reported to be higher in females than in males under extreme heat in Europe, especially in the oldest age group (≥ 80 years). Elderly people and women sweat less compared to young people and men respectively, inhibiting thermoregulation as a response to periods of increased heat.
