Nordic and African Leaders – Why Gender is Key to the Green Transition

This UN Women side event at the COP27 will be held on 15 November 2022, 13:15-14:45 Cairo time (UTC+2).

This high-level side-event will focus on accelerating leadership for gender equality in climate action. African countries realised early on that climate and gender equality policies must be closely linked. Although the Nordic countries are considered to be among the most gender-equal in the world, their national climate policies have, until recently, been gender-blind.

The green transition will cover every part of society, requiring leadership that ensures gender equality in every area, from agriculture to higher education, and from transport to fishery. In light of this, African, Nordic and UN Women leaders will come together at COP27 to discuss how gender is key to the green transition and what this transition might look like. UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous will be speaking at this event.
