Micronesia Sub-Regional Private Sector Climate Finance Workshop

The Framework for Resilient Development in the Pacific (FRDP) and the complementary Pacific Resilience Partnership (PRP) mechanism recognize the need for a multi-sector and multi-actor response to building  Resilience. As part of enhancing and facilitating a multi-sector and multi-actor response, Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) in collaboration with partners is actively supporting the private sector to enhance and  facilitate its contribution to building resilience at the community, national and regional levels.

There is recognition of the key role that the private sector plays in building resilience of communities in the Pacific. Despite strong interest, at present the private sector tends to play a peripheral role in climate change and disaster risk management. This workshop provides an opportunity to learn how the private sector is and can contribute further to building resilience, the gaps in existing processes that potentially inhibit as well as the opportunities that exist to facilitate and enhance private sector coordination and contribution.

This workshop builds on the 2018 FEMM directive and experiences and lessons learnt from the previous sub-regional workshops in Melanesia, Polynesia and the 2020 virtual Micronesia workshop which was co-hosted by the Government of Nauru and PIFS. The planned Micronesia Sub-regional workshop will be held in-person in collaboration with the Government of Palau and the Palau Chamber of Commerce as the host.
