Global Gender Champions and Experts Meeting: Strengthening Gender-Responsive Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Resilience
This dedicated event brings together gender champions and experts, governments and partners from around the world to discuss and strengthen the leadership role and voices of women in DRR processes and decision-making spaces. The event provides a platform to showcase and celebrate results from UN Women, the Women and Gender Stakeholder group, and other partners including women’s organisations and civil society, governments and donors. It is an opportunity to share and learn from the diverse experiences and transformative practices across regions, and to align on priorities ahead of the 8th Session of the Global Platform for DRR.
The meeting will apply the Pacific concept of dialogue, a talanoa, to highlight the contributions of partners, including women’s organisations and government towards inclusive and gender-transformative disaster risk reduction, with emphasis on supporting the implementation of the Sendai GAP. The event builds on similar gatherings at previous sessions of the Global Platform and the Asia Pacific Ministerial Conferences on DRR in 2022 and 2024.
The meeting is co-organised by UN Women's Women's Resilience to Disasters programme financed by Australia, the Women and Gender Stakeholder Group and the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF).
