Climate Justice Panel: Unequal Impact of Geography and Gender on People

This UN Women side event will be held on 14 November 2022, 11:40-12:40 Cairo Time (UTC+2).

Although women and girls suffer disproportionate impacts of climate change in Brazil, the effects are not homogeneous. Looking at climate change through the lens of intersectional feminism, the way various forms of inequality operate together and exacerbate, the risks of climate change are disproportionate to Indigenous and Afro-descendant women and girls, older women, LGBTIQ+ people, women and girls with disabilities, migrant women and those living in rural areas, conflict and disaster-prone. This panel discussion, organized by Global Compact Brazil and the UN Women Brazil Country Office, will explore how different sectors of society have positioned themselves and used the developments and discussions of the COP as a guideline to establish reduction, adaptation and compensation mechanisms to guarantee the full quality of life for current and future generations and the combating social inequalities.
