Call to Action - Addressing Climate Change in the Arab States through Surging Women’s Employment in the Green Economy
This UN Women side event at the COP27 was held on 11 November 2022 from 13:00-14:00 Cairo time (UTC+2).
With an average temperature increase of 1.5°C over pre-industrial levels in the Arab states, these countries - essentially stretching across three geographical areas; North Africa, the Levante and the Gulf region – share a projected increase by up to 5°C by the end of the century. In 2022, within the framework of CSW66, a ground-breaking regional commitment was made when 22 Members States across North Africa, the Levante and the Gulf, committed to on overarching programme to addresses climate change through surging women employment areas pertinent for climate change adaptation. In this context, this event explores women's financial inclusion and employment in the Green and Blue Economies as a means to address climate change in the Arab States region. UN Women Deputy Executive Director Anita Bhatia and UN Women Regional Director for the Arab States Susanne Mikhail will be speaking at this event.
