Mauritius: National disaster risk reduction and management strategic framework 2020-2030

March 2021

This National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Strategic Framework (National Strategic Framework)  guides the Republic of Mauritius’ approach to disaster risk reduction and management for the next 10 years to 2030. This National Strategic Framework is for use by all Ministries and Departments, at national and local levels, while also engaging communities, civil society, development partners, and the private sector in disaster risk reduction and management efforts. It incorporates generally accepted good practices in disaster risk management, including attention to gender, age, health and disability status, as well as an ecosystem-based approach to risk management to support a sustainable future.

This National Strategic Framework encapsulates four interlinked goals derived from the Strategic Pillars:

  1. Increase the ability to manage risks at individual to societal levels.
  2. Reduce current risks to levels which are as low as reasonably possible.
  3. Avoid the creation of new risks or raising the level of current risks.
  4. Ensure that preparedness, warning, response, and recovery are as effective and efficient as
  5. possible to reduce impacts and facilitate a rapid return to normal.
