Democratic Republic of the Congo: National adaptation plan to climate change (2022-2026)
November 2021
This NAP demonstrates the DRC’s commitment to the Paris Agreement and will help bring our essential responses to the impacts of climate change. Strengthening climate resilience will enable our country to contribute to the objectives of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals. Climate change has adverse effects on the economic development of our country and may jeopardize the achievement of the objectives of the National Strategic Development Plan (PNSD) 2019–2023, which aims to create a prosperous, climate-resistant and low carbon emission nation. Since the economy of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is heavily dependent on natural resources, recurrent droughts, erratic rains and floods will continue to negatively impact the livelihoods and assets of communities.
The Government of the DRC recognizes the threats posed by climate change and has taken action to address them. In this regard, my Ministry coordinated the development of the Climate Change Policy, Strategy and Action Plan (PSPA-CC) in 2015, and then its update in 2020. This first National Adaptation Plan to Climate Change (NAP) marks a new step in efforts to address the country’s vulnerability and strengthen resilience to climate change.
