Advancing Disability Inclusion in Post-Crisis Recovery

The session, co-organized by the Permanent Mission of Australia, IDA, UNDP, UNICEF, WFP, OCHA, UN WOMEN, and WPHF will bring together voices from member states and grassroot organizations working to advance disability inclusion in post-crisis recovery.

Addressing disability inclusion in post-crisis recovery processes and outcomes remains a critical concern for humanitarian, development and peace actors. Throughout the recovery and reconstruction process, persons with disabilities and their representative organizations play crucial roles as allies in advancing disability inclusion. This session will showcase practical examples of successful post-crisis recovery processes and outcomes that have embraced disability inclusion principles. Furthermore, it will discuss the challenges and opportunities for enhancing meaningful participation of persons with disabilities and their representative organizations more effectively in the future. The session will explore the following issues:

• Applying rights-based approaches and human-centered design in post-crisis recovery.
• Fostering equal partnerships and ensuring meaningful participation of persons with disabilities and their representative organizations in post-crisis recovery efforts.
• Promoting the leadership and voices of girls and women with disabilities in post crisis-recovery.

• Part 1: Lessons from mainstreaming disability inclusion in post-crisis/ post-disaster recovery processes, such as the rollout of Post-Disaster Needs Assessments (PDNAs), developing and implementing recovery frameworks, recovery plans or recovery projects.
• Part 2: Lessons on fostering equal partnerships and ensuring meaningful participation of persons with disabilities and their representative organizations in post-crisis recovery efforts.
