This side event hosted by the Australian Government and the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is on the topic Voices from the Pacific: Highlighting the Powerful Role of Women’s Action and Leadership in Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Building.

This 60-minute side event is focused on how prevention, preparedness, response, recovery and reconstruction efforts are more effective when decision-makers represent a cross-section of society.

This event will take place from 9.00 am-10.00 am Australian Eastern Daylight Time on Thursday 24 March 2022 via YouTube Live. Please check your time zone here.

The event will be opened by the Australian Minister for Women and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, and feature presentations from Vasiti Soko, Director of the Fiji National Disaster Management Office and Vaiaoga Lameko, Coordinator of the Tuvalu Readiness-1 Project, Climate Change Department. The presenters will then join a panel discussion with Amanda Leck from the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience, facilitated by Branwen Millar, Gender Adviser from UNDRR. Christine Clarke, Australian Ambassador for Women and Girls will close the event.
